On Saturday 11 July 2026, Brighton Karate did something that almost never happens in South Australia. We brought a two-time World Champion into our dojo and opened the door to anyone willing to learn.
Sensei Ysobel Jarjoura from Central Coast Kyokushin Karate isn’t just a decorated fighter. She’s one of the most experienced full-contact competitors alive in Kyokushin today.
- Two-time World Heavyweight Champion (2011 and again in 2025 at the Japan Championship)
- Represented Australia nine times
- More than 120 full-contact fights in the ring
- Multiple national and state titles to her name
That is not theory. It is knowledge earned the only way real fighting knowledge can ever be earned: round after round, hit after hit, against the best in the world.
A Full Room, and a Rare One
34 participants packed the mat, 13 of them black belts, with visitors travelling from across South Australia to be part of the day. We were proud to welcome students and instructors from Kangaroo Island Kyokushin Karate (KIKK), Frances Martial Arts, Kyokushin Karate Adelaide North, and Mawson Lakes Kyokushin. When dojos are willing to drive hours to train with someone, you know the instructor is the real deal.
Seminars of this calibre simply do not happen often in South Australia. World champions don’t usually land in Adelaide. We hosted this one for a simple reason: the people training at Brighton deserve access to the same level of fighting knowledge you would find in Sydney, Japan, or anywhere else Kyokushin is taken seriously.
What Was Covered: Real, Applicable Fighting
This was not a photo opportunity. Sensei Ysobel put everyone to work across every layer that makes a fighter:
- Stretching and preparation routines used by elite competitors
- Technique: the small details that turn a punch into a punch that lands
- Drills built around timing, distance, and pressure
- Practical fighting strategy: how to actually apply it under live resistance
- The mental side of competition: how real fighters handle fear, fatigue, setbacks, and the moments that break most people
That last point is the one most seminars skip, and it’s the one that separates fighters from techniques-collectors. Sensei Ysobel spoke honestly about the challenges every fighter faces, on the mat and off it. Everyone in that room left with more than new combinations. They left with a clearer picture of what it actually takes.
Why Brighton Can Host Fighters Like This
This seminar didn’t fall into our laps. It was a reunion. Senpai Pamelia and Senpai Ruben trained for a decade at Hanshi John Taylor’s Bondi Junction Kyokushin Dojo, the same dojo Sensei Ysobel came through. Back in Sydney they shared countless sessions with her on the mat, including the hard rounds put in while preparing for the 2018 World Championship. She is not a guest instructor they met once. She is a training partner and a friend, and that is exactly why she said yes to making the trip to Adelaide.
When you train at Brighton, you’re training with instructors who come from that world. We know what real fighting looks like because we’ve lived inside it, and we bring that standard to every single class, not just when a world champion is visiting.
Thank You
To every student and instructor who joined us, especially those who travelled from across the state: your support meant a great deal. To Sensei Ysobel Jarjoura, thank you for your generosity, your passion, and for taking time away from your family to share your knowledge with our dojo. It was a privilege to have you at Brighton Karate, and we hope to welcome you back.
What’s Next: NSW September Camp
If this fired you up, come and train with the Brighton dojo on the road. We’ll be at the NSW September Camp in Heathcote from 11 to 13 September 2026, for three full days of kihon, kata, and kumite with the wider Kyokushin family from across the country. This is the kind of training that compounds, because every camp you attend makes you a sharper, tougher, more complete karateka. We’d love to see you on the mat there.
You Don’t Have to Wait for the Next World Champion
Here’s the part we want you to hear clearly. The level of coaching on display at this seminar is the level we coach to every week.
You don’t need to be a black belt. You don’t need to have fought. You don’t need to be fit, flexible, or fearless. Beginners are genuinely welcome, training is progressive, and contact sparring is introduced only when you’re ready, safely and at your pace.
What you do get, from your very first class, is instruction from people who understand real fighting. That’s the Brighton difference.
Your first 2 lessons are free. No commitment. Just turn up, train, and feel it for yourself.
